Dewale's Engagement Ceremony Pics, Part I

My brother, Dewale (Wale) Oyejide, got married to his "boo", Kaya Jones, in Philadelphia on June 14th.

Here are some pics of the traditional Yoruba engagement ceremony.  (Yoruba is my ethnic group, in Nigeria.)

The tradition is for the extended families of both Bride & Groom to meet the day before the formal wedding.  This counts as a wedding, at least traditionally.  It's a whole song-and-dance (literally) during which the family of the Groom tries to woo the family of the Bride.  After much "hard-to-get" playing... it all works out.

Unite for Change Event

On Saturday, June 29th, Tamara and I hosted a "UNITE FOR CHANGE" event at our place.

It was 1 of over 4000 such events across the country, bringing together Democrats, Independents (of which I am one) and Republicans, united for positive change in these our United States of America.

We had 17 people attend, and the energy and enthusiasm was palpable.  It was very exciting to connect with people motivated to make things better.  The range of experience with the electoral process, and politics in general, varied quite widely.  (From first-timers, like me, to folks who've been volunteering for decades).

I'm looking forward to doing more of these.
